Styles of Dance

Which class should I take?

Freestyle:

Freestyle dance is a development of disco dancing. Dance Fusion covers many disciplines of Freestyle. Two of the main disciplines are Freestyle Disco and Slow Dance.

Freestyle Disco:

Elements of this style are similar to original disco dancing. Lively music from the top of the charts is used and students will learn kicks, jumps and basic/ advanced step patterns to their favourite modern songs.

Slow dance:

This is where elegant graceful moves are put to lyrical songs. This discipline builds on technique and control as a dancer and at the same time helps to build on self-expression.

We also include Contemporary, Jazz Dance, Traditional Dances and Ballet into the Freestyle curriculum.

Street Dance:

Street Dance has become very popular recently mainly due to the success of Street Crews such as Diversity and Flawless. In the junior classes basic step patterns are taught to steady music from the charts. These patterns are then developed into complex sequences as the dancer progresses. This style is great fun whether you want to learn it for your own personal enjoyment or if you want to take it a little further with exams and competitions.

Dance Fusion also covers Waacking, House, Locking and Hip Hop in Street Dance classes.

Rock n Roll:

Rock n Roll is a fun partner dance which developed in the 1950’s. Basic footwork is taught with simple lifts in beginner classes and complex lifts are learnt when dancers have gained sufficient experience.

The music used in this class is traditional Rock n Roll music, such as ‘Rock Around the Clock.’

Quite often people come to Rock n Roll class on their own, so there will always be someone to dance with if you haven’t got a partner.

Cheerleading:

This style originated in America and is featured in many popular films including ‘Bring it on.’ Cheerleading focuses on team spirit and quite often will include the use of pom poms.
